What Are Workday Expanded Benefit Plan Details?

In the 2022 R1 release, Workday® provided a better way to deliver and present critically important benefit plan details to employees to assist them in the election process.

One of the top priorities for benefit professionals is benefit offering education. It is critical that your employees have the pertinent benefit plan information so they can make the best enrollment decisions for themselves and their families. Health Plans, retirement benefits and other ancillary plans are wonderful perks for employees, but ensuring they have plan data at their fingertips can be challenging. Providing multiple touchpoints to benefit plan information is helpful and ultimately makes the employee’s experience much better.

What Are Expanded Benefit Plan Details?

Benefit Plan Expanded Plan Details is a Workday solution that provides specific plan details to your employees within the enrollment process. In other words, you can include plan-level detail without making your workers cross-reference an external document. This can include information such as:

  • Co-pays
  • Retail Drug Costs
  • Co-insurance
  • Office Visits
  • Deductible
  • HSA Qualified
  • Coverage
  • Imputed Income
  • Out-of-Pocket Maximum
  • and more!

Benefit Administrators have both free-text and custom field options to allow for flexibility when configuring plan details. When using the Expanded Plan Details feature, the Benefit Plan name becomes a clickable link within the Benefit Event:

Configuring Benefit Plan Details

Benefit Administrators have both free-text and custom field options to allow for flexibility when configuring plan details. When using the Expanded Plan Details feature, the Benefit Plan name becomes a clickable link within the Benefit Event:

Below the Additional Information Text box, you will have a customizable grid to input your employee benefit’s plan details. Workday delivers many commonly used details, but you do have the ability to add your own option if the delivered fields aren’t enough:

Customizing Label Override Value

To create your own values, access the Maintain Custom Labels task:

Load Details via EIB

Admins also have the option to utilize the Benefit Plan Expanded Details EIB to complete a bulk import of Expanded Plan Details. It’s important to note that once configured, updating your Expanded Plan Details should be added as a task on your Open Enrollment checklist! This will ensure any updated plan information is displayed correctly for your employees.

Custom Reporting

This 2022 R1 update also provides additional reporting help. All the new fields on the benefit plan expanded details section can be easily exported to review current set-up and be used to populate an EIB.
